How It Began
Locanda del Viandante was born from a simple idea: to create a house in the mountains where time slows down and people come together with intention.
Our Story
The roots of Locanda del Viandante go deeper than hospitality — they begin with a desire to revive a place and its soul.
The building and spaces you see today were first protected and reclaimed by Fondazione Scamoi, a Swiss foundation established to preserve, revitalize, and celebrate the heritage of Osco and its surroundings — from the built environment and traditional gastronomy to cultural life and community gathering places.
What was once a ruin became part of a broader vision to keep local traditions alive, to reconnect people with place, and to ensure that the mountain village remained a living, breathing community instead of a relic.
In that spirit, we stepped in as stewards of the next chapter, embracing the foundation’s intent and expanding it into something shared — a mountain home for retreats, events, and slow stays anchored in nature, locality, and human connection.
Here, you won’t find a generic hotel experience. What you will find are spaces shaped by history, context, and intention— from the preserved walls and timber to the cadence of days in the mountains. Every gathering, meal, and practice is an invitation to connect with the place and each other, grounded in the legacy of regeneration that brought the Locanda to life.
Our Vision
We manage the Locanda as a shared mountain home—a place for retreats, small events, and seasonal stays, where people come together to practice, eat, walk, and spend time without rushing.
We believe in simple hospitality: spaces meant to be used, food that nourishes, and days that leave room for presence and connection. Our role is not to over-program the experience, but to create the right conditions for meaningful gatherings to happen.
By building on the regenerative spirit of the place, we aim to keep the Locanda rooted in the village, open to new ways of gathering, and relevant for the people who come after us.
